Biography

Graduate in Biological sciences at University of Rome La Sapienza and specialist in Pathology at Università Cattolica, where she has been Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of general pathology at the Department of Translational Medicine and Surgery, Policlinico A Gemelli Foundation IRCCS, up to 2021. She taught pathology in BSc, MSc, Medical school, specialization school and master courses, also as coordinator or President. She has also been part of several academic committees.

Since 1991, she organized Erasmus exchange activities for medical students and has taken part to many European cooperation programs for medical education.

She has been post-doctoral fellow (CNR-NATO) for a total of 3 years at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA and Department of Biochemistry, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. More recently (2016) she was Visiting Scientist at the Laboratory of cellular and molecular physiology (LPCM), Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France.

She is President of the scientific society SDRM (International Society for the Development of Research on Magnesium), she has been organizing several international meetings of this society. She is co-editor in chief of the Journal Magnesium Research and section editor for the journal Nutrients.

Her research activity focused on the role of divalent cations in metabolism of normal and transformed cells, she authored 250 publications, of which 100 on peer-review journals (60% as first or last author) and 10 book chapters. Total IF ~350, citations >3300, H-index 31 (Scopus 2021).
