Promoting a Culture of Third Mission

UniCamillus University’s Third Mission aims at enhancing scientific research, disseminating knowledge outside the academic environment and serving the community.

The University promotes socio-cultural initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being, social development and cultural growth of the society it operates in.

Promoting a culture of Third Mission and Social Impact means:

1) Raising awareness of the meaning of the Third Mission;

2) Promoting the values inherent in the vision and mission of the Third Mission;

3) Sharing and collaborating between stakeholders, both internal and external.

The Stakeholders

There are multiple categories of stakeholders in UniCamillus’ Third Mission/Social Impact:

  • The Patient, at the core of the Third Mission;
  • The students, who represent the future medical and healthcare professionals;
  • The teaching staff, who guide the students’ growth journey;
  • The technical and administrative staff, which are essential for organizational and project processes;
  • The network of external partners, collaborating for growth and value creation.

Area of action

The international territory plays a central role in the realization of UniCamillus’ mission, as it fosters value exchanges in the following ways:

  • A community of students from 67 different nationalities, particularly from the global South.
  • Scientific and research interest focused on international health and medical topics.
  • English-taught programmes to engage with the international scientific community.
  • A multicultural environment.

On the local level, for the purpose of territorial sustainability, the University aims to generate a positive impact in the urban area where its headquarters are located. As the student and infrastructure capacity grows, UniCamillus contributes to urban, social, and economic regeneration.

The national territory is the natural context where UniCamillus’ medical doctors and healthcare professionals, once graduated, operate in favour of health and well-being.

Health, Diversity, Inclusion

In the healthcare sector, inequalities generate a high socio-economic impact. UniCamillus’ mission of promoting “inclusive medicine” aims to reduce inequalities between countries by pursuing equal healthcare conditions for disadvantaged and marginalised social groups, as well as for individual patients, through empowerment and personalised care pathways while respecting different cultures. UniCamillus’ humanitarian missions are a central objective in this regard. Diversity and inclusion also encompass gender equality (Goal 5 of Agenda 2030), including the use of inclusive language to challenge gender stereotypes and promote social change, and the establishment of an “Alias Career” within the University.
