This year, the 16th edition of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WP – World Physiotherapy), held every 8 September, focuses on a condition which is estimated to afflict around 520 million people worldwide: Osteoarthritis, the 11th leading cause of disability worldwide.
Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease which is often associated with motor dysfunctions that may temporarily or permanently limit daily life activities.The Physiotherapist, who has always been committed to the counteraction and prevention of disabling diseases, is playing an increasingly important role in the creation of treatment and care models for patients suffering from chronic diseases. Through therapeutic exercises, the Physiotherapist helps to improve the functional capacity and quality of people’s lives in different life contexts.
Various initiatives have been organised to celebrate World Physiotherapy Day and UniCamillus is participating in awareness-raising events promoted by ASL Roma 3 and ASL Roma 6, with the collaboration of interns from the Physiotherapy Degree Course.
On the occasion of this day at ASL Roma 3, the focus was on the Rehabilitation at the ‘centre’ between history and the future, while the conference on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Ministerial Decree no. 77 – Arthrosis and Rheumatic Diseases in the New Models of Territorial Assistance: the Contribution of Physiotherapy was held at the seat of the Senate of the Italian Republic in Palazzo Giustiniani, where also the Minister of Health Speranza participated online, announcing that he had signed the Decree, which officially establishes the National Federation of Physiotherapists entering the Health Professions.
