Biography

Dr. Giovinazzo is a general surgeon specialising in surgical oncology, particularly in Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. He has a broad range of experience and expertise in various surgical areas, including Abdominal Multi-organ Retrieval and Liver Transplantation, and he is particularly interested in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Cancer research, as well as Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (GEP-NETs). He is currently working as Head of Surgery at Ospedale di Zona San Camillo Treviso (IT). He has been trained in HPB surgery and liver transplantation in the UK and Italy. 

He was awarded a PhD from the University of Verona in 2012 after defending a thesis entitled “TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY: AN ITALIAN EXPERIENCE.” During his PhD, Dr Giovinazzo’s research interest focused on developing a translation research group involved in projects related to cancer biomarkers discovery. He has also collected and analysed large multicentre databases investigating the morbidity and mortality rates in high-volume HPB centres.

Dr Giovinazzo has been involved in laboratory-based, epidemiological and meta-analysis projects producing high-impact publications, led several international projects, and secured research funds with different research grants.
