Graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Genoa, he obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and Translational Medicine – Neuroscience Curriculum at the University of Brescia.
He is currently a Tenure Track Researcher (RTT) in Histology (SSD BIO/17) at the University of Verona.
He has worked as a Research Fellow at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research (Milan, Italy) and at the University of Brescia (Brescia, Italy), and as a Research Associate at the University of Southern California (USC) (Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.).
His research activity focuses mainly on identifying molecular mechanisms that can be modulated to treat neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases. Experimental techniques used by Prof. Parrella include various methods such as behavioral tests on animal models, histological techniques, cellular biology, and in vivo imaging.
He is a co-author of numerous scientific publications in international scientific journals (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0365-5144).
