Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UniCamillus (International Medical University in Rome), he earned his specialization in Psychiatry at the University of Pisa and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology through the BiBiM 2.0 “Pegaso Project,” Cycle XXXII, at the University of Siena. He completed a Second-Level Master’s Degree in Pharmacological and Behavioral Addictions at the University of Pisa and a specialization course in “Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for the Production of Evidence-Based Guidelines, Cochrane Methodology” at the University of Milan. In 2017, he obtained national scientific qualification for the role of Associate Professor in Psychiatry.

He has served as a Research Fellow at the Rockefeller University (New York, USA) under the mentorship of Dr. M.J. Kreek and at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) under the guidance of Dr. M. Krausz during his specialist training.

He is a lecturer in the Second-Level Master’s Program in “Psychopathology of Neurodevelopment in Adults” (University of Pisa), “Addiction Medicine” (UniCamillus, Rome), and the “School of Specialization in Psychotherapy with a Transactional Analysis Orientation” (PerFormat, Pisa). He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journals “Heroin Addiction and Related Clinical Problems,” “International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health,” and “Austin Addiction Science,” and serves as an Associate Editor in the “Frontiers” journal in the “Addictive Disorders” section.

He is the President of the Italian Section of the World Association on Dual Disorders “WADD-Italia” and the “Society of Clinical and Experimental Psychiatry of the School of Pisa.” He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Addiction Medicine “SITD,” the Board of Directors of the Tuscany Regional Section of the Italian Society of Addiction Medicine “SITD,” and the Association for the Use of Neuroscientific Knowledge for Social Purposes “AU-CNS.”

He worked as a full-time Medical Director at the UOC of Psychiatry, Azienda USL Toscana Nord Ovest (Versilia area) from May 2016 to March 2024.

He is the co-author of more than 150 scientific articles indexed on Scopus (H-index 26) and has participated as a speaker in over 50 national and international conferences.
