He obtained his Master’s degree in Historical Sciences at the University of Florence and then a PhD with a double degree between the Doctorate in Historical Studies (University of Florence and Siena) and History of Science (EHESS – Paris), with a thesis entitled: The Florentine Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova and the Reconfiguration of Medical Practices. Mobility of people, objects and knowledge (18th-19th centuries).
His research interests are focused on the history of medicine in the modern and contemporary ages and its practitioners. In particular, he is interested in the history of medico-surgical training in hospitals, which are analyzed as places of care, training, construction and circulation of knowledge.
Other aspects concern the history of the Florentine medical guild in the Renaissance, the human and animal epidemics, and the history of nursing.
He is conducting research on the presence of women in surgery in the 18th century and the student mobility of practitioners in a Mediterranean horizon.
From October 2024 he is Assistant Professor (RTDa) in History of Medicine at UniCamillus – Saint Camillus International University of Health and Medical Sciences, Rome.
