Alessio Reggio obtained his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, in 2019. His research activity was mainly focused on the study of cellular plasticity and stem cell biology. From 2019 to 2021, he was a researcher at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine, in Pozzuoli, a center of Italian excellence for the study of the pathogenetic mechanisms of many rare diseases. From 2022 to 2024, he completed his post-doctoral research period both in an academic environment (University of Rome Tor Vergata) and in industry at the Research Institute of Molecular Biology, IRBM. During his work experience, Alessio has consolidated a network of excellent collaborators that include some of the most influent European scientists.
His current research activity is focused on understanding the alterations of cell signaling pathways and autophagy circuits that underlie muscle wasting diseases, especially in the context of muscular dystrophies.
He is the author of numerous scientific works, and the products of his research are published in
prestigious high impact factor journals.
Since October 2024, he is associate professor at the International University of Health and Medical
Sciences UNICAMILLUS, Rome, Italy.
