Alberico Motolese
Alberico Motolese is an experienced dermatologist who held several Director roles and Professorships in both dermatology and allergology in leading university hospitals across Italy.
After graduating from the Medicine Department of the University of Modena, he began his career as a hospital physician in 1979 at the Dermatology Clinic of the University of Modena. He subsequently advanced to the role of Director of the Complex Operative Unit of Dermatology, leading departments at several major hospitals: the “Alessandro Manzoni” Hospital in Lecco, the “Ospedale di Circolo” in Varese, and the “Santa Maria Nuova” Hospital in Reggio Emilia.
He has held academic appointments as a Professor of Dermatology, and of Allergology and Clinical Immunology at the University of Modena, and later as a Professor of Dermatology at the University of Insubria in Varese.
His scientific and clinical research has evolved over the years. For the first decade, his focus was on Contact Allergology, specifically the relationship between contact sensitization and atopy, as well as on textile dyes and occupational allergens in the ceramic industry. Subsequently, and up to the present, his research has centered on “Vascular and Inflammatory Ulcers,” investigating the mechanisms of impaired healing and the application of novel therapies—ranging from advanced dressings to techniques utilizing blood-derived components and stromal fractions containing stem cells.
His clinical experience has been dedicated to ensuring the effective operation of complex dermatological structures across three different hospitals, with the continuous goal of improving clinical care integrated with teaching. He has mentored numerous trainees, many of whom now hold positions in hospitals across Italy. His commitment to organizational excellence in dermatological care is demonstrated by his active participation in quality assurance systems (such as ISO-9000) and his leadership roles, including positions as Department Head.
His reputation within the dermatological scientific community is attested by his role as a speaker at over 390 national and international conferences, his presidency and organization of congresses, and his extensive publication record of 245 printed works covering a wide range of clinical dermatological topics. He has also been a speaker at major international congresses, including the World Congress of Dermatology in Sydney, New York, Buenos Aires, and Milan, and served as President of the 90th SIDEMAST Congress in Milan in 2015.
Starting in 2025, he is a Professor of Dermatology in the Master’s Degree program in Dental Medicine at the UNICAMILLUS International Medical University in Rome.
