Alberto Maria Settembrini

Dr. Alberto Maria Settembrini, MD, FEBVS, is Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at Unicamillus University and a vascular surgeon at IRCCS MultiMedica in Sesto San Giovanni, Milan. He is the Head of the Unit for Peripheral and Diabetic Vascular Surgery (UOSD) within the Vascular Surgery Department, directed by Dr. M. Martelli, at IRCCS MultiMedica in Milan. Previously, he coordinated the Second-Level Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Team of the Lombardy Region at Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, where he had already served as Consultant Vascular Surgeon under the direction of Prof. S. Trimarchi.

Earlier roles include various senior medical positions in prominent vascular surgery units throughout northern Italy, including IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, Ospedale San Carlo Borromeo (Milan), and Ospedale Maggiore della Carità (Novara), among others.

Prof. Settembrini completed his specialist training in Vascular Surgery, refining his surgical skills and deepening his clinical expertise in different centers in Milan and in Italy: University Hospital Careggi in Florence under Prof. C. Pratesi, San Carlo Borromeo Hospital in Milan under Prof. P. Settembrini, and IRCCS Policlinico San Donato (Prof. G. Nano), IRCCS Centro Cardiologico Monzino, and the Civico Hospital of Lugano, Switzerland. His early clinical exposure also included internships in thoracic surgery, general surgery, and emergency medicine in Milan’s primary teaching hospitals.

He has also enriched his training through significant international exposure: fellowship at the Department of Vascular Medicine at the University Heart Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany, under the mentorship of Prof. S. Debus; visiting physician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, working with Prof. T. Bower and Prof. P. Gloviczki; humanitarian surgical mission at the Hôpital Saint Jean de Dieu in Tanguietà, Benin, led by Dr. F. Priuli.

He is a Fellow of the European Board of Vascular Surgery (FEBVS), a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and an active member of numerous national and international scientific societies in the field of vascular and cardiovascular surgery.

Dr. Settembrini serves as Associate Editor and reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, and he is actively involved in clinical research, serving as Co-Principal Investigator in multiple studies.

Prof Settembrini is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, many of which have been published in high-impact journals. His publications cover a broad spectrum of vascular topics, including peripheral arterial disease, diabetic foot management, open and endovascular procedures, vascular trauma, and translational bioengineering.
