Alessio Colantoni

Biologia Molecolare – BIOS-08/A,Molecular Biology – BIOS-08/A

Alessio Colantoni obtained his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology (Bioinformatics curriculum) at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” in 2015. From 2014 to 2020, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Irene Bozzoni’s laboratory at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and subsequently, from 2020 to 2022, in Gian Gaetano Tartaglia’s laboratory at the Center for Life Nano- & Neuro-Science of the Italian Institute of Technology, Rome. In 2022, he became a fixed-time type A Researcher (RTDA) at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology “Charles Darwin”, University of Rome “La Sapienza”, a role he held until August 31, 2025. He is currently a fixed-time tenure track Researcher (RTT) at UniCamillus.

Active in the fields of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, he has developed a broad research activity ranging from sequencing data analysis to the study of non-coding RNAs, from macromolecular interactions to genome assembly. His studies have addressed both physiological processes, such as muscle development and pharyngeal endoderm formation, and pathological conditions, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, DiGeorge Syndrome, GNAO1-related disorder, and Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Beyond research, he actively contributes to scientific publishing as Editor and Reviewer for several journals, and to academic and post-graduate education, teaching in practical workshops organized by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and in Advanced Training Courses.
