Antonio Cigliano

Prof. Antonio Cigliano is Associate Professor of General Pathology and Clinical Pathology. He obtained his degree in Biological Sciences and his PhD in Biochemistry, Biology and Molecular Biotechnologies from the University of Sassari.
He continued his scientific training at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia (USA), under the supervision of Prof. Alfonso Bellacosa, where he studied epigenetic mechanisms associated with tumors and enzymes involved in DNA repair, using murine models. Upon returning to Europe, he carried out research at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universities of Greifswald and Regensburg, in the group lead by Prof. Diego F. Calvisi.
His research activity is focused on the study of the molecular pathogenesis of hepatobiliary tumors, with particular interest in signal transduction pathways and metabolic mechanisms involved in tumor growth and progression, as well as in the development of innovative therapies as molecular targets.
He is a member of the European Network for the Study of Cholangiocarcinoma (ENSCCA), Matrix Biology Italy (MBIta) and the Italian Society of Pathology and Translational Medicine (SIPMeT).
He is the author of over 70 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Since October 2025 he has been appointed Associate Professor in the disciplinary scientific sector MEDS-2/B Clinical Pathology, at the Departmental Faculty of Medicine of the Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences – UniCamillus, Rome.
