Chiara Agrati

Chiara Agrati graduated in Biological Sciences from Sapienza University of Rome in 1998, obtained her specialization in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2003, and a PhD in Immunology from the same university in 2007.

From 1999 to 2008, she worked as a researcher at the IRCCS L. Spallanzani in Rome, where she was appointed as Senior Biologist in 2008. In 2016, she became Head of the Cellular Immunology Unit at IRCCS L. Spallanzani. Since 2022, she has been working at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital, where she serves as Head of the Pathogen-Specific Immunity Research Unit within the Department of Oncohematology.

Since 2015, she has been annually involved in teaching activities for the Master’s program in Molecular Virology at Sapienza University of Rome.

Prof. Agrati has more than twenty years of experience in Immunology, with particular expertise in the study of protective and pathogenic mechanisms associated with acute and chronic viral infections, emerging viral infections, and the design and validation of methods for evaluating protective immunity induced by infections and/or vaccinations. She also has experience working in BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories.

She is an active member of several scientific societies, has obtained multiple competitive research grants, and has coordinated multicenter studies.

She is licensed to practice as a Biologist and, in 2022, obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for university professorship as:

i) Full and Associate Professor in Sector 06/A2 – General Pathology and Clinical Pathology;

ii) Associate Professor in Sector 06/A3 – Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology.

As of July 2026, she is the author of 247 peer-reviewed publications, with 6,903 citations and an H-index of 44 (source: Scopus).
