Elements of autopsy cytopathological histological diagnostics autopsy techniques - MEDS-09/A

Egidio Stigliano, of Lucanian origin and Roman by adoption, after having obtained his classical high school diploma, enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine of Siena which he attended profitably from 1990 to 1991. Subsequently, he served in the military and attended the School of Cytology (SDAFS) at the Faculty of Medicine in Bari. In 1996-1997 he moved to Rome and attended the Institute of Pathology of the Catholic University. In the meantime he attended the specialization course in Cytology in Tanta in Egypt and graduated in Biomedical Laboratory Technicians (BMLT) at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome (Italy).

In 2001 he joined the laboratory of Prof. Arnaldo Capelli, one of the leading experts in Pathological Anatomy at the Catholic University of Rome. In the following years he gave his experimental and scientific contribution to various national and international research projects as a pathologist with experience in the diagnosis of autopsies and histopathological procedures. He continued his studies, obtaining a PhD in Human Pathology and Medical Science (Sapienza University, Rome) in 2013 and, more recently, in 2022, a Specialization in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome).

Since 2000 he has been Professor/tutor of the Degree Course in “Biomedical Laboratory Techniques” and of the I and II level Master in “Autopsy and Forensic Sciences” at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Catholic University of Rome, as Supervisor and Co-Supervisor of numerous experimental thesis projects. Since 2007 he has been actively involved in several international cooperation missions in collaboration with the Italian government and Pathologists Across Borders (APOF).

He is an autopsy specialist, pathologist assistant, forensic scientist, human cadaver anatomy laboratory technician, embalmer and thanatopractor. He actively collaborates with various national and international scientific bodies, including the National Research Council (CNR), Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS).
