Fabiana Mallone
I graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from Sapienza University of Rome in 2014, completing an experimental thesis entitled “Choroidal Thickness and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thinning in Alzheimer’s Disease,” after an excellence track dedicated to the study of monoclonal antibodies in ophthalmology. Since 2015, I have been regularly registered with the ‘’Albo dei Medici Chirurghi e degli Odontoiatri’’ of Rome.
In 2019, I obtained with honors the Residency Diploma in Ophthalmology from Sapienza University of Rome, presenting the experimental thesis “Neurotrophins in Epiretinal Membranes: Idiopathic ERM vs Secondary ERM,” following a high-specialty internship at the Royal Eye Hospital in Manchester, UK.
I earned with honors a PhD in Innovative Biotechnologies in Sensory Organ Pathologies at Sapienza University of Rome (2021–2025), defending the experimental dissertation “Safety and Efficacy of Topical Applications of Eye Drops Obtained with the HY-Tissue PRP System in the Treatment of Dry Eye Secondary to Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD).”
In 2023, I served as a Research Fellow in Corneal and Ocular Surface Diseases at Tufts Medical Center in Boston (MA), USA.
Since 2025, I have been a Tenure-Track University Researcher at UniCamillus – International University of Health Sciences in Rome, as well as a Researcher and Medical Director at the G.B. Bietti IRCCS Foundation in Rome.
I am the author of numerous scientific publications in indexed international journals and a speaker at national and international conferences and courses. I am a member of prestigious scientific societies, including ARVO and AAO, and I have taken part as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in national, European, and international research projects.
My research focuses on clinical and translational ophthalmology, with a particular interest in corneal and ocular surface diseases. I am passionate about integrating clinical and surgical practice with research and teaching, contributing to the advancement of patient care and the dissemination of knowledge in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment.
I hold advanced proficiency in professional medical English (CEFR C1) and the OET – Occupational English Test certification (Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment, CBLA).
