After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Messina, Dr D’Amico obtained specializations in Geriatrics and Gerontology, Sports Medicine, and Health Statistics.

For over 20 years, he served as Director of the Complex Unit of Geriatrics and of the Geriatric Care Network of the Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale di Messina (Provincial Health Authority of Messina).

As the appointed coordinator for active aging, he was responsible for Prevention Plan projects targeting chronic diseases through physical activity programs.

He taught Geriatric Medicine within the Rete Formativa della Scuola di Specializzazione in Geriatria della Università degli Studi di Messina (Training Network of the Specialization School in Geriatrics at the University of Messina). At the Università degli Studi, among his teaching assignments, he lectured in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Principles of Rehabilitation, Medical Statistics, Motor Activities for Older Adults, and Methods and Techniques of Motor Education for the Elderly within the following Degree Programs: Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Neurophysiopathology Technicians, Motor Sciences Sport and Health, and Sciences and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Physical Activities.

He was awarded the Leonardo da Vinci Gold Merit by the Federazione Medica Sportiva Italiana (Italian Sports Medicine Federation) for his contributions to the fields of physical activity epidemiology and movement pathophysiology in the elderly population.

He is the author of publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings.
