Ilaria Vicenti

Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology - MEDS-03/A

Professor Ilaria Vicenti obtained her degree in Medical Biotechnology and a European PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Siena. In 2021, she obtained the specialization in Microbiology and Virology and, starting from 2023, she acquired three different habilitations for university teaching as an associate professor (Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, and Laboratory Medicine).

For over 15 years, she conducted research at the University of Siena, first as a research fellow and then as a fixed-term researcher. During this time, she specialized in virology, focusing particularly on antiviral drug resistance and the assessment of viral persistence and evolution. Her research activities, initially centered on HIV and hepatitis viruses, later expanded to include the in vitro evaluation of new drugs against flaviviruses and the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, also studying the impact of the neutralizing antibody response during the pandemic.

These activities resulted in numerous publications in international journals, participation in national and international conferences, collaborations with pharmaceutical companies, and several grants, some of which were awarded to her personally.

Since 2025, she has been an associate professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the “Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences” in Rome.
