Luigi Chiariello
Luigi Chiariello is an Italian cardiac surgeon.
In the seventies at the Texas Heart Institute of Houston (Texas) spent several years as fellow in the department of cardiac surgery with Dr. Denton A. Cooley M.D. Surgeon-in-Chief and subsequently at the Buffalo Children’s Hospital (New York) with S. Subramanian M.D. Surgeon-in-Chief.
Full Professor of Cardiac Surgery in the University of Pisa (1980-1983, the youngest Italian Professor of cardiac surgery) and in the Tor Vergata University of Rome (1983-2024).
Subsequently up to 2022 Hospital President, Chief of the Cardiac Center, Scientific Director of the High Specialties Mediterranea Hospital in Naples.
Since a.a. 2024-2025 temporary professor of cardiac surgery at the UniCamillus International University of Rome.
Knight of the Grand Cross of the Italian Republic.
Author of about 800 scientific papers published in international and national journals. Author of the Italian textbook for cardiac surgery “Trattato di Chirurgia Cardiaca” (2016) and with the psychiatrist Willy Pasini of the book “Da Cuore a Cuore”, book having the preface of Raffaele La Capria.
About thirty thousand cardiac operations. Among his patients SS. Pope Benedictus XVI in 2012.
Speaks English, German and French. Interested to modern and contemporary art, philately and gardening. Loves tennis, swimming, yachting and golf.
