Roberto Colangeli
- MSc Medicine and Surgery (LM-41) – Rome (taught in English)
- MSc Medicine and Surgery (LM-41) – Cefalù
Dr. Colangeli is a researcher in the field of neuroscience, with solid international experience.
He earned a Ph.D. in Toxicology from Sapienza University of Rome and conducted research at the University of Malta, the University of Calgary, and the Marche Polytechnic University. He is currently a tenure-track researcher (RTT) in Physiology at UniCamillus University in Rome.
His research focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying stress and epilepsy related psychiatric disorders, using both in vitro and in vivo experimental models. In particular, his main preclinical research lines includes:
- Investigation of the neuronal and molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity mediated by the endocannabinoid system;
- Analysis of the physiological role of the endocannabinoid system in the regulation of memory and emotions, and how stress and epilepsy affect this system, contributing to related psychiatric disorders;
- Exploration of the functional interaction between the endocannabinoid and serotonergic systems in the modulation of hippocampal activity, aiming to clarify the neurophysiological mechanisms involved in the onset of pathological hypersynchrony, a hallmark of epilepsy.
Dr. Colangeli is the author of numerous publications in leading international journals such as Neuron, PNAS, Journal of Neuroscience, and Neuropsychopharmacology.
He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Neuroscience Research and has participated as both organizer and speaker in several national and international conferences in the fields of neuroscience and physiology.
