Rome, 16 September 2026 – 147 specialist consultations and an afternoon of scientific discussion dedicated to coeliac disease, allergies and food intolerances, attended by 185 participants.
To mark Regional Coeliac Disease Day, the Open Day dedicated to coeliac disease, allergies and food intolerances, organised in collaboration with AIC Lazio (Italian Coeliac Association) and the UniCamillus Clinics Group, came to a close at the Madonna della Fiducia Clinic in Rome.
The event, entirely dedicated to the public, combined prevention, specialist advice and scientific outreach, whilst also launching a new programme of events through which the clinic aims to strengthen its ties with the local community.
Throughout the day, adults and children were able to meet specialists in the fields of gastroenterology, dietetics and nutrition, allergology, paediatrics and dentistry, and received advice and guidance on the correct diagnostic and care pathways.
Special attention was paid to the need to clarify the differences between conditions that are often confused with one another and to facilitate a correct and timely diagnosis.
Coeliac disease in Lazio: specialists and institutions come together
In the afternoon, the scientific conference brought together representatives from institutions, universities, voluntary organisations and specialists involved on a daily basis in the diagnosis and management of coeliac disease.
Professor Gianni Profita, President of UniCamillus Clinics and Rector of UniCamillus University, Dr Mario D’Ambrosio, President of the Madonna della Fiducia Clinic, Dr Angelo Mocci, President of AIC Lazio, and Dr Piera Spada, Medical Director of the facility, welcomed the participants.
The scientific session featured presentations by Dr Italo De Vitis, focusing on the reality of coeliac disease in Lazio; Dr Gianmarco Giorgetti, who addressed the differences between coeliac disease, allergies and food intolerances; and Dr Francesca Ferretti of the Bambino Gesù Paediatric Hospital, who explored the epidemiology and diagnostic aspects of coeliac disease in children.
The discussion was moderated by Dr Maria Carla Di Paolo, a gastroenterologist at San Giovanni Hospital.
From an open day to a permanent programme dedicated to health
The event on 15 September is not a one-off occasion.
The Open Day marks the start of a series of regular meetings open to the public, through which the Madonna della Fiducia Clinic aims to promote a culture of prevention and create opportunities for direct dialogue between members of the public, specialists and the research community.
The project is part of the facility’s new phase of development within the UniCamillus Clinics Group, encapsulated in the three principles that will guide its journey: ‘Excellence. Innovation. Humanity.’
This strategy aims to integrate healthcare, university education and scientific research, whilst simultaneously strengthening relationships with general practitioners and the local healthcare network, in line with UniCamillus’s commitment to the Third Mission and social impact in support of public health.
A clinic undergoing renovation
Alongside the expansion of its clinical and scientific activities, a major programme of structural refurbishment and technological modernisation is currently underway at the Madonna della Fiducia Clinic.
The project includes the construction of a new entrance, the refurbishment of reception areas and communal spaces, the upgrading of surgical wards, and investment in state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive surgery.
These measures are complemented by the gradual digitisation of services, the development of telemedicine and the strengthening of home-based care, with particular attention to the needs of frail patients.
This new direction looks to the future whilst remaining firmly rooted in the institution’s history—from the presence of the Sisters of Our Lady of Namur to the Vinciguerra family’s long-standing management—celebrating a history deeply intertwined with the city of Rome and propelling it towards a new clinical, academic and scientific dimension.
The Open Day dedicated to coeliac disease thus represents the first visible step in a wider project: a clinic that is increasingly open to the city, where technological innovation and scientific excellence go hand in hand with a focus on listening to and placing the individual at the centre.
