Enrolment on the UniCamillus MSc in Medicine and Surgery at the Cefalù campus continues to grow

Di Maria and Profita: “We are grateful to President Schifani for supporting our project”

CEFALÙ (PA), 22 JANUARY 2026 – The second year of the MSc in Medicine and Surgery has begun in Cefalù, made possible through the collaboration between UniCamillus University and the Fondazione Giglio. The 71 new students joining the 55 first-year students confirm an increase in enrolments, which “shows how the university is gaining a foothold in Sicily, confirming the expected socio-economic impact of the project.” This was stated by Victor Mario Di Maria, Chairman of the Giglio Board of Directors, and Gianni Profita, Rector of UniCamillus and Vice-Chairman of Giglio.

The Cefalù teaching centre already employs 41 lecturers across various disciplines and three administrative staff members responsible for organisational activities. Professionals from Giglio and UniCamillus are also involved in two research projects, which have led to the creation of a consortium for a Horizon call and a partnership for a call for proposals issued by the Regione Siciliana, involving two companies (Promed22 and Gesan), the CNR and the University of Messina.

During the first academic year, thirteen scholarships totalling €60,000 were awarded to deserving resident students, “with the aim of encouraging them to remain in the region”.

“We are seeing the first significant positive effects, which confirm the validity of our vision to make the Giglio di Cefalù a centre of excellence not only in healthcare, but also in education and research”, said President Di Maria.

“This achievement would not have been possible without the firm political will and strategic support of Renato Schifani, President of the Regione Siciliana,” added Di Maria and Rector Profita. “He has strongly promoted this process in our region with the aim of raising the standards of Sicilian healthcare. Concrete conditions are being created to retain our young talent and to generate vital economic benefits for the Madonie area”.

UniCamillus is based in the Cefalù hospital, where facilities for teaching, study and research have been created.
