Health and education in Africa: the ITESHS project moves forward with courses, equipment and events

After its official launch on 26th February, the Integrated Transcultural Educational Synergy in Health Sciences (ITESHS) project, promoted and coordinated by UniCamillus University, is entering a new operational phase, confirming its strategic role in the promotion of health education in Africa.

Under the scientific coordination of Emiliano Maiani, Delegate for Research at UniCamillus, and the organisational coordination of Valentina Foscoli, ITESHS involves a prestigious international consortium that includes the University of Chieti-Pescara ‘G. d’Annunzio’, the University of Foggia, the Somali National University in Mogadishu, the Hanseatic Institute of Technology and Applied Sciences (HITAS) in Cameroon and the University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.

UniCamillus has already sent equipment to the Somali National University to set up a computer room that will support distance learning for students on the BSc Physiotherapy programme, and is continuing to prepare a CPD course in Orthopaedics.

Meanwhile, an English language course planned for Somali and Cameroonian students is about halfway through and will see its completion at the end of May, after a spring spent learning online.

The project continues to consolidate international academic relations: on 17th April the Rector of the Hanseatic Institute of Technology and Applied Sciences (HITAS) in Cameroon, Maurice K. Kamga, officially visited the University of Foggia, further strengthening the scientific and educational cooperation between the partners.

The next important event will be the international workshop ‘Parenting and Culture: Cross-Cultural and International Migration Perspectives‘, to be held on 9th and 10th May at the Department of Psychology of the University of Chieti-Pescara ‘G. d’Annunzio’. This free event in hybrid format (in-person and online), will provide a valuable opportunity for cultural and scientific exchange on topics related to parenting and international migration.

The ITESHS project, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), confirms its effectiveness in promoting international health education and reinforces the central role of UniCamillus in the cooperation between Italy and Africa.
