With overwhelming emotion and immense sorrow, Rector Gianni Profita and the academic community of UniCamillus join the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis.
His voice, so full of authenticity, hope and mercy, stood as a shining beacon in our times, often marked by division, suffering and indifference. His pontificate extraordinarily embodied the lived Gospel, leading the Church to walk alongside the downtrodden, the marginalized, and those left on the edges of history.
It is impossible to forget what he did soon after he became Pope: he visited Lampedusa, a painful symbol of the tragedies of our time. It was a powerful, prophetic choice that immediately made clear that his gaze would be first and foremost directed towards the most vulnerable. On that occasion, Pope Francis courageously denounced the “globalization of indifference”, urging humanity to rediscover solidarity, attentiveness, and presence.
That sorrowful pilgrimage to Lampedusa, so rich in meaning, left an indelible mark on our hearts—just like so many other words and gestures the Pope shared with us over time. We want to remember him as someone capable of changing our view of life and the world.
We join together in prayer, with deep gratitude for the example, love, and witness he has left us. His spiritual legacy will continue to speak to us and guide us.
Thank you, Holy Father.
May you rest in peace, in the eternal light of the Lord.
