UniCamillus gets Align Technology funding for international research for fourth consecutive year

The project of the UniCamillus School of Orthodontics focuses on preventing upper canine inclusion using clear aligners.

UniCamillus is once again among the high-profile centres of scientific research in the field of orthodontics. For the fourth consecutive year, our University has been awarded funding by the prestigious multinational Align Technology Inc., whose Annual Research Award Programme is now in its fifteenth year and aims to fund high-profile university research projects in the fields of orthodontics and digital dentistry.

The project that received funding concerns ‘The interception of maxillary canines at risk of inclusion using the transparent aligner technique’: a study with significant clinical and social implications, exploring new frontiers in the early diagnosis and non-invasive treatment of dental inclusions in younger patients.

The project was once again led by Roberta Lione, lecturer at UniCamillus, together with the staff from the UniCamillus School of Orthodontics. Her presence among the winners has become a hallmark of the University’s academic prestige. Over the past four years, UniCamillus has consistently received support from Align for research projects, obtaining two grants in 2024 alone.

“Once again this year, the UniCamillus School of Orthodontics has won the Align Technology Research Grant. This is an international award at a European level that encourages us to explore current topics such as digital orthodontics. Through research we can outline effective, predictable clinical protocols and identify the limits and possibilities of different therapy tools”, says Roberta Lione. “Our goal is to collaborate to transform personal clinical experience into objective data that can be communicated and compared universally”.

“This award from a global leader such as Align Technology confirms the value of our applied research and the scientific excellence that UniCamillus promotes every day”, says Rector Gianni Profita. “Being selected for the fourth consecutive year proves the strength of our educational approach and the international relevance of our research teams”.

Align Technology, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of the Invisalign® clear aligner system, selected twelve research projects from universities across three continents, including UniCamillus.

This new success confirms UniCamillus’s role as an international centre of excellence in biomedical research and dental science, and demonstrates its commitment to advancing clinical knowledge in the field of digital orthodontics.
