CONFELECTURES

A new formula to share knowledge

Directors Prof. Alessandro Boccanelli and Prof. Laura Elena Pacifici Noja

The word “confelectures” is the synthesis of two words dealing with transmission of knowledge through conference and lecture. If we combine the two concepts, the final product will be amalgamating the classical conference held by an expert (which means transmitting their expertise to a general public) with the classical lesson given to students. This means that the public engaged in the confelectures are students as well as generally interested people.

The components of possible success of the confelectures are the high level of expertise of the speakers and the universal interest for the topics exposed by the event. Another component of our confelectures, will be the interactive involvement of the public, so that the final result will be a shared consciousness of the subjects at hand.

Our confelectures will focus on fundamentals in health professions. This means that students of all professions who are engaged in caring for human beings must be interested in the learning and in the discussion. The experts will be invited to present their topic in a friendly way, often interrupting their speech to engage discussions on those matters with their audience.

Who is the audience?

Besides the students, doctors and all other types of healthcare professional may be interested in refreshing some not so frequented concepts. In our lives as doctors, it is not often that we get to reflect on the topics such as communication, shared decisions and, generally speaking, health ethics. Confelectures regarding fundamentals in healthcare professions will provide the occasion to do that.

Besides, it is considered useful that the Confelectures are an opportunity for a fruitful contamination between students and professionals. The refreshing intellectual curiosity of the former is surely a stimulus for the latter who, in turn, will contribute to the debate with the wealth of their experience.
