UniCamillus students meet their future selves. A ‘Meet & Greet with the Future’ event in the Auditorium, organised by fourth- and fifth-year MSc in Medicine and Surgery students, allowed them to interact with medical practitioners, specialists and former postgraduate students to get advice on how to continue their studies. This is an unprecedented initiative for the University, but one that other degree programmes are considering replicating due to its success. In fact, the students who took part are preparing to start their specialisation in less than two years. And who better than someone who has recently been through it to ask for some input on how to tackle this new and imminent challenge?
It was a very interesting event. About a hundred UniCamillus students were present in the Auditorium to listen to the presentations and speeches of the guests and to ask questions about possible medical programmes in cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, infectious diseases, paediatrics, orthopaedics, etc. Among the guests were Dr Posteraro, Head of Cardiology at the Tivoli Hospital, and Dr Morelli, a specialist in oncology and radiotherapy. They were joined on stage by former students and other young newly qualified medical practitioners who had recently completed their training, either at UniCamillus or elsewhere. Each of them shared their own first real personal experience of working as a medical practitioner.
All of the University’s future graduates were encouraged to follow their own inclinations, regardless of what career path each future medical practitioner might take. The message that came through loud and clear from the stage was not to put expectations ahead of passions and interests, because to be a good medical practitioner requires a strong sense of commitment to caring for others that can never be fully realised without a willingness to follow through with conviction.
