His  field of clinical activities and research is mainly focused on mechanical invasive and noninvasive ventilation, in the adult population in the perioperative as well as in the critical care setting. His scientific research was also extended for ten years to the paediatric population aimed at using noninvasive ventilation in neonates affected by degenerative respiratory diseases with the aim to switch them from hospital to home care. Alongside respiratory failure and its management with mechanical ventilation, he  gave also contribution as an expert on palliative medicine, sedation and pain management. He is actually responsible Italian Member of the ESAIC (European Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care- ESAIC) council and chairman of FORUM-2 of the scientific committee of the European Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care-ESAIC

He has a large experience (more than 25 years) in teaching and in setting up scientific program of international meeting as well as post-graduate courses.
