Prof. Edoardo Mercadante graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 1997, with full marks.
In 2002 he specialized in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and in 2007 he also obtained a PhD in Angio-Cardio-Thoracic Surgical Physiopathology and Radioisotopic Functional Imaging.
He has done surgical internships in France, Denmark, Austria and China.
He has dedicated much of his surgical training to minimally invasive thoracic surgery and he has been one of the first in Italy to use thoracoscopic techniques for major lung resections (VATS Lobectomy) since 2012.
Since 2020 he has also been performing Thoracic Surgery with the da Vinci Xi and Si Robot.
He is currently the Director of the Thoracic Surgery Unit of the National Cancer Institute “Pascale Foundation” in Naples.
