Biography

Dr. Francesca Spinella is a molecular biologist specializing in medical genetics and oncology. She graduated from the University of Catania and earned her Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is currently an Associate Professor of Applied Biology at UniCamillus – Saint Camillus International University of Health and Medical Sciences in Rome and serves as a Medical Science Liaison at Eurofins Genoma Group.

With a research career that began in 1995, Dr. Spinella has collaborated with major research institutions, including the Regina Elena National Cancer Institute, La Sapienza University of Rome, and the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan. A significant focus of her work is oncology, particularly investigating the role of oncogenes and tumor suppressors in the development and progression of solid tumors.

In recent years, her research has focused on reproductive and prenatal genetics, contributing to the development of advanced diagnostic technologies such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) applied to preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) and non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).

Author of over 80 scientific publications, Dr. Spinella is a member of national and international scientific societies, including the Italian Society of Human Genetics (SIGU) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), where she serves as past-chair.
