There is a touch of UniCamillus in Italian volleyball. This year, a new physiotherapist has joined the medical staff of Serie A2 women’s club Tenaglia Abruzzo Volley Altino. His name is Giacomo Fiorillo, a 24-year-old from Vasto. He graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from our University and qualified as a Physiotherapist last year. He is also an accredited personal trainer with the Italian Weightlifting Federation (FIPE), and in August he began his new professional experience in a sport he has loved since childhood.
“At UniCamillus, what really influenced my training was the internship. Thanks to the University, I’ve had the opportunity to visit state-of-the-art clinical and hospital facilities, such as the INI in Grottaferrata, where I’ve been in contact with very well-prepared tutors who have also allowed me to deepen my knowledge and practise advanced working techniques and methodologies,” says Giacomo.
The club he works for is delighted with the young physiotherapist’s professionalism. Giacomo explains the background that has brought him to this point: “After my studies, which actually started at the same time as my degree at UniCamillus, I started working in some physiotherapy practices. I also attended a number of specialised courses in sports and orthopaedics, after which I gained some experience with different teams in different sports. Before this experience with Tenaglia Abruzzo Volley Altino, which is my first really important job, I had worked with a 5-a-side football team in my area and in the summer with a beach soccer team”. Giacomo also had a few internships with youth teams in his home town. “They were all stepping stones,” he adds, “to get to where I am now, in one of the top levels of women’s volleyball. However, I still have a lot to learn and I am aware that it is always important to learn and keep up with my professional development“.
Giacomo has fond memories of his time at UniCamillus and has no doubts about the quality of the education offered by the University: “I would definitely recommend other colleagues to study at UniCamillus, because I think the quality of the tutors and the education you receive is really excellent—and that can help you after graduation as well”.
