Professor Mungo presents the first CPD programme in Traumatology destined for Libyan medical practitioners.
The Libyan-Italian Business Forum was officially inaugurated in Tripoli by the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the President of the Libyan Government of National Unity Abdulhameed Mohamed Dabaiba.
The Business Forum, which was attended by high-level representatives of the Italian and Libyan business sectors, was divided into working groups on energy, fishing and agribusiness, health and pharmaceuticals, infrastructure and design, and higher education. There was also a session dedicated to presenting the forms of public support offered to Italian companies wishing to invest in Libya by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), by SACE, the Italian insurance-financial group specialising in supporting businesses and industries, and SIMEST, a company helping Italian companies to expand all over the world.
In her opening speech, the Italian Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, announced that ITA Airways would resume direct flights to Libya from next January, demonstrating the growing and constant strengthening of cooperation between the two countries.
There was also a unanimous willingness to work together to establish equal partnerships with African countries in the context of projects of the ‘Mattei Plan’ for Africa.
Among the various working sessions, those devoted to bilateral university programmes and health were particularly interesting. Both sessions were attended by President Dabaiba, who stressed the importance of cooperation between Italy and Libya in the university and health sectors. The session on universities was opened by the Libyan Minister of Higher Education, Omar Al Ghib, who pointed out that university relations at international level are a priority for the education of students and expressed his wish for greater university cooperation between Italy and Libya. Professor Massimiliano Iannuzzi Mungo, a lecturer in Medicine and Surgery at UniCamillus, also took part in the session on universities. He brought a message of greetings from UniCamillus’ Rector Gianni Profita and illustrated the wide range of academic activities offered by our Institution, highlighting the humanitarian objectives of the University’s many projects for developing countries. The first CPD course in Traumatology offered by UniCamillus to Libyan medical practitioners and approved by the Libyan Ministry of Health was also presented. Professor Mungo expressed the willingness of Rector Profita and the entire academic community to participate in joint university projects that could be implemented in Libya and Italy, namely in the framework of the ‘Mattei Plan’, in the fields of education, scientific research and health care.
The session on health was attended by renowned health institutions and pharmaceutical companies, with the participation of the Libyan Prime Minister and key government representatives. Dr Guido Lanzara, Medical Director of the Policlinico Luigi Di Liegro in Rome, was one of the keynote speakers and presented the training activities of the Policlinico di Liegro, which is accredited as a UniCamillus teaching centre for Italian and foreign students.
