In Memory of Professor Laura Pacini
UniCamillus mourns with deep sorrow the untimely passing of Professor Laura Pacini, who left us on April 9, 2025. Her loss is a source of great sadness for our entire academic community.
Professor Pacini was a leading figure in the field of Biology and devoted her life to teaching and research. She earned her degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” in 1987, followed by a PhD in “Molecular and Cellular Biology” in 1992 and a Specialization in “Biotechnological Applications” in 1993. From 1994 to 2009, she served as a Senior Researcher in the Antivirals Department, HCV Project, at Merck Research Laboratories/IRBM (Istituto Ricerche Biologia Molecolare), in Pomezia, Rome.
Since 2012, she had taught Biology as an adjunct professor in the Degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery and in the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. Between 2010 and 2018, she took part in numerous national and international research projects, working on innovative biomedical initiatives.
In the past decade, her research focused on the cellular mechanisms underlying synaptic dysfunction in neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular attention to Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) and autism. She was co-author of 33 publications in international journals and a member of the Italian Association of Biology and Genetics (AIBG).
At UniCamillus, Professor Pacini served as a Researcher and taught Applied Biology. Throughout her academic career, she taught and mentored generations of students with dedication and expertise, conveying not only scientific knowledge but also the values of curiosity, research, and critical thinking. Her commitment and collaborative spirit greatly enriched the UniCamillus academic community, leaving a lasting impact on our department and on the projects she contributed to.
We will deeply miss her guidance, her enthusiasm, and her ability to inspire innovation. Her legacy will live on through the students she educated, the projects she inspired, and the work she helped to advance.
